How to start a secret chat in SafeW: burn-after-reading guide

SafeW secret chat offers end-to-end encryption, burn-after-reading and no forwarding. This guide covers how to start one, set message destruction, and its characteristics.

How to start a secret chat in SafeW: burn-after-reading guide

Some conversations you want to "disappear after reading, no forwarding, no traces". SafeW's secret chat is designed for exactly that.

What is secret chat

Secret chat is SafeW's high-security mode. Messages are end-to-end encrypted and exist only on the two participants' devices — no cloud sync. It also supports burn-after-reading, no forwarding and screenshot alerts.

How to start a secret chat

In a contact's chat, tap their avatar or the "More" menu and choose "Start secret chat". Once in secret mode, both sides' messages enter high-security state.

How to set burn-after-reading

Inside the secret chat, set the auto-destruction time — e.g. 10 seconds, 1 minute or 1 hour after reading. Once the other party reads it, the message auto-deletes without a trace.

Secret chat characteristics

Secret chats use device-level keys and never sync. That means after switching phones, secret chat history cannot be inherited. This is a security feature, not a bug.

Things to note

Secret chat is secure, but the other party can still take screenshots (some versions block it). For important content, agree on "no sharing" and enable 2FA to protect the account.

Summary

Secret chat suits sensitive topics: business talks, private communication, temporary files. For conversations you need to keep, use regular chat.
